President Chisholm gonged the meeting to order at 12:30. Jim Pritchard
lead us in prayer and Barb Henry helped us with the National Anthem. Shari
McDonough thanked Jeff and Gretchen Markarian for the Wine and Cheese
Gift-giving party held at their house this past Saturday. As usual Jeff and
Gretchen were gracious hosts and a good time was held by all. The Wine and
Cheese Party which will be held on Wednesday May 13 is setting records with
$10,520 in sponsorships compared to last year of $7,300, but we still need 25
baskets to reach our goal of 50! Scott Mason thanked everyone who participated
in Shred It. John Coogan announced the Wednesday August 26 golf and cookout to
be held at the NOCO pavilion at the Sheridan Golf Course. "Short arms"Gary
Roberts announced that our July 4 celebration will be held on July 2 at Elmlawn
Cemetery. This year we will have dinner by Jovis. Cost $20 each, children under
10 free. Larry Coon and Shar attended the Rotary Slap Shot program in Ancaster
Canada over the weekend. Thank you Mr & Mrs. Rotary!
Fines were handed out by
the Master Fine Master Dr. Jay. We learned a lot about Rotary's quest to
eradicate Polio. We are almost there with only 22 cases reported in Pakistan and
Afghanistan this year. Year to date Nigeria has no reports. Thanks to Gary
Roberts for answering all the other question asked by Dr. jay incorrectly. The
club treasury made out pretty good.
Split Club was won by Jeff Markarian and
Jim Logan who never wins anything drew the 8 of diamonds.
President Paul
introduced Barbara Carr from the Erie County SPCA which is the second oldest
SPCA in the country. It is estimated that the SPCA has a 64 million dollar
annual impact on the economy of WNY. 14,000 animals find their way to the SPCA
annually of which 3,000 are wild. The SPCA employs 126 full time people and has
1300 volunteers. The facility on Ensminger Rd is too small and a new 8 million
dollar facility will be built in West Seneca starting this summer. Barb reviewed
all the programs that the SPCA offers from its inner city school program to
their program that assist veterans that are having difficultly adjusting.
The
club wishes Gary Roberts the best in his upcoming surgery. Get back soon. The
treasury needs your donations!
