President Steve called the meeting to order at 12:15 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance and led us in the invocation.

Announcements:

  • Monday 9/24 @ 4 p.m. the Satellite Club and Jim Jones were having their Peace Pole dedication. Jim was also going to be receiving his Paul Harris, since he was unable to attend our installation dinner. A new member was being inducted into their club at this time also.
  • September 28 will be a regular meeting, with Nancy Debroka from Elder Transition Consulting as our speaker.
  • October 3 is Shred-It. Pat has signs, stickers and a sign-up sheet. If you can help, please contact him directly.
  • October 5-No meeting
  • October 7-Dinner meeting at Joey’s Place
  • October 12-No meeting in observance of Columbus Day
  • October 19-Regular meeting with speaker Jeffrey Lebsack from Friends of the Riverline
  • October 24-Isle View clean up from 10 a.m.-12 noon. Please reach out to Ed Hacherl if you can help
  • October 26-Regular meeting with new member talk by Lynn Marinelli
  • Lynn announced our Shred-it fundraiser to her women’s club
  • Thursday 9/24 is the Buffalo Museum of Science exhibit debut. If you registered your name is on their list.

Guest Speaker:

Jennifer Hoffman from WNY Dyslexia Education Center was an educator for 35 years and has 20+ years as a dyslexia specialist. This is their 11th year as a for profit but are transitioning to a non-profit. Reading and spelling impairment affects 20% of the population. It’s not a vision problem but a disorder that affects how the brain processes written and oral language. It is not linked to intellect. She offers 1:1 specialized instruction. They serve families whose kids are not properly serviced by the school system. There is great success, but it needs to be started at an early age and is very individualized. 1 in 5 people are dyslexic. It is a costly service, and they are looking to becoming a nonprofit so they can offer scholarships. They will look for future funding, working with foundations, community partnerships and want to grow their board of directors. They are located in Snyder Square in Amherst. Lynn’s ticket was picked for the split and she won $7. Cathys was picked for the Ace and she chose the 8 of clubs. The pot is up to $163.

President Steve Blass started off our Monday meeting at 12:15pm and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance followed by John Coogan sharing with us an invocation.

Announcements:

  • Steve announced the Board meeting on September 18, 2026 at Olympic Restaurant at 8:30am.
  • Steve announced the next few meeting speakers: September 21- WNY Dyslexia Education Center and September 28, 2026- Elder Transition Consulting, LLC. 
  • Pat Griffin talked about Shred It on October 3, 2026 from 9:00am- 1:00pm. He had a sign up sheet. He had lawn signs to pass out too. 
  • Ed Hacherl talked about Isle View Park Clean up on October 24, 2026. 
  • Steve talked about the opening of the Buffalo Sports Exhibit at the Buffalo Museum of Science. The club got 10 spots to the opening exhibit and filled the spots.
  • Steve talked about Amherst South Rotary Club Poker Run Bike Ride to End Polio on September 26, 2026. Reach out to Steve for more information. 
  • Ron Levea mentioned an article about Claudia’s Club in the Amherst Bee. We donated money to Claudia’s Club to buy washers and dryers. 
  • Steve asked club members to bring smaller bills for the Ace of Spades because petty cash is getting low. 
  • Holly Inducted New Member  Vincint Buccitelli. WELCOME

They talked about all the services they provided and helpful hints if we have loved ones that may need their services. Finally, they talked about all the needs they have and how people can help.
