The Ken 6/6/2022

Table Attendance/Split Club: Phil Michalowski

Fine Master: Dick Hanaburgh

Invocation: Brandon Blatz

The Ken: Donna DiFrancesco

The meeting was called to order at 12:24 p.m. with the Pledge and Prayer.  There was a good showing for today’s meeting, which was nice to see. President Dick asked for announcements.

  • Brandon reminded everyone of the Installation Dinner on Monday June 20 at 6 p.m. at Webster’s Bistro & Bar. The cost is $50 per person. Please RSVP to Steve Blass by email sblass61@gmail.com or phone 716-868-8085 no later than Monday June 13. There will be no regular meeting on June 20.

  • Pat announced the Hole In One Contest held in conjunction with the other service clubs in the area, that will be from July 11-14. Our club always takes that Monday and he is looking for volunteers. The Community Picnic will be on Thursday July 21 at the Fire Department grove on Military and Kenmore and you can register and pay on the KenTon Chamber’s website.  Dues are due by June 27 for the 2022-2023 Rotary year.

  •  Gary announced there will more than likely be a July 4th picnic at the cemetery, possibly a BYOF (bring your own food) style this year. He will be in contact with Mike Austin with more to come.

  • Ron let us know that there will be a Celebration of Lives for Keith & Mary McBride on Wednesday June 15 from 4-6:30 p.m. at Perna, Dengler, Roberts Funeral Home, 1671 Maple Road, Williamsville. This date marks what would have been their 71st wedding anniversary.

  • Donna read a message from Cathy Piciulo that Ronald Pilozzi, former Mayor of the City of Tonawanda and part of the driving force, along with his wife Christine, in the formation of the Satellite Club of the Tonawandas, has passed away. His visitation will be on Wednesday June 8 and Thursday June 9 from 3-7 p.m. at the John O Roth funeral Home, 25 William Street, Tonawanda. Heartfelt condolences go out to the Pilozzi family.

Our guest speaker, Barb Perez Director of Development with the BSA Greater Niagara Frontier Council, was announced by Brandon.  Girls are now welcomed into the Boy Scouts, which was originally chartered through congress as the Boy Scouts of America, and under that are the individual chartered councils. The program is now called Scouts BSA. They chose to include females because there was a decline in membership overall and the family dynamic has changed through the years. There are many little sisters of Boy Scouts that wanted to join too. As for camping, the boys are on one side of camp, girls on the other and adults in between.  Out of every 100 scouts, 4 will become Eagle Scouts. There were approximately 61,000 Eagle Scouts in 2019. There will be an event at the Botanical Gardens, “Cocktails in the Gardens” on Thursday August 4 to support the BSA. Barb was a very informative speaker and there were several Q & A’s.

Bill Brucker won the split club of $14 and Ron picked for the Ace but got the 5 of Spades instead. Phil did verify that the Ace was indeed still there! Dick asked for confessions. Ron attended his 50th reunion from college! Donna confessed to celebrating a big birthday recently and donated $1 per decade and also donated $1 in celebration of her twin grandson’s 1st birthday ($7 total)! Pat & Linda just celebrated their wedding anniversary by going to Presque Isle, where I had been several times in the past and told him how beautiful it was. He never believed me and because of that, paid a fine! Phil’s banana tree is doing wonderful! We then had boy scout trivia, and pretty much all paid a fine.

Meeting was adjourned and we all enjoyed lunch and great company.
