The Ken

11/29/2021

Fine Master: Brandon Blatz

Table Attendance & Split Club: Cameron Kukla

Invocation: Tim Glor

The Ken: Donna DiFrancesco

The meeting was called to order at 12:20 p.m. by President Dick with the Pledge of Allegiance and prayer by Tim Glor.

Steve Blass announced the upcoming speakers: TJ (new member) will be speaking to the club on December 6th and Elizabeth O’Donnell from Gliding Stars will speak on December 13th.  Larry Coon has scheduled Lisa Davidson, Instructional Specialist for Science for the KenTon School District, for December 20th.  President Dick announced there will be NO meetings on December 27th or January 3rd, 2022 in light of the Christmas Holiday. In January, he will schedule current members as speakers to update the club on work/life/retirement, etc. This is so we can fill in the gaps on the speaker list and also so new members can learn about their peers. Rick mentioned that we need to start working on our centennial celebration in early 2022. There will need to be a lot of working parts to prepare for this grand celebration.

There was no speaker for today, so Chuck updated on the grants for the Foundation. Their next meeting is Tuesday 12/7 and Friday 12/3 is the last day for requests. He has received 10 applications totaling $140,000. I’m sure we will be updated on the recipients once the decisions have been made.  Split club of $12 was won by Art and Dick picked the 7 of Diamonds.

Last minute Fine Master Brandon asked for confessions. Tim spent thanksgiving in Virginia with family, Ron’s granddaughter got engaged the day before Thanksgiving on a golf course, Cam and his fiancée got their traditional Indian Wedding outfits, and Linda, fully vaccinated, got covid and didn’t have to cook dinner for only the 2nd time in 38 years. He then quizzed us on Thanksgiving Trivia. The first Turkey Trot was held in Buffalo (of course, because it’s the oldest!) The first Thanksgiving Day NFL game was held in 1920; there were 5 women present at the first Thanksgiving and 12% of Americans skip turkey.

Last minute addition requests to The Ken, from Larry: The Satellite Club will be meeting this Thursday 12/2 at 8 a.m. at Spot Coffee, 54 Webster Street, N. Tonawanda. Their speaker this week will be the N. Tonawanda Mayor Elect, Austin Tylec. The Village of Kenmore’s 9th Annual Stop, Sip and Shop will also be held this Thursday 12/2 from 4-8:00 p.m. Please come out in support of our Satellite Club and our local businesses.

Meeting adjourned and lunch enjoyed by all!
