The Ken November 4, 2019
Attendance: Phil Michalowski
Split Club: Ron Levea
Fine Master: Scott Swan
Invocation: Phil Michalowski
The Ken: Jeff Markarian
Donna began our meeting with the Pledge, no song and Phil gave our invocation. We asked Brian if his Boston club still sings. He smiled and said no. Maybe it’s time? Our guests today were Brian Ahern and Nancy Chisolm.
Announcements: Dick H, Shred-It charged us less than quoted increasing our profits. Final numbers will be in soon. There will be a meeting Monday 11/11. Larry has Alexis Linck Entwhistle speaking to us. Alexis is the UB Rotaract student who has been an exchange student to Italy from her home club of Utica. We need a speaker for 11/18. Holly hosted the first wine event committee meeting last week and only 5 members attended. We need a larger committee.
Phil M won the split club and Rick Graham missed the Ace.
Scott Swan was our fine master. He took fines from: Paul Chisolm played golf with Brian Ahern in the cold. Brian fined Jim Logan $20 for stiffing because of the cold. Brian paid the fine himself. Donna was at a Halloween wedding. She said it was weird but really nice. Ron was in Phoenix. No clouds there. I confessed to losing our rug store roof in the storm Thursday evening. Roofmasters had a crew there within 20 minutes to prep, supplies in an hour and all repaired by noon!!! Mike Austin confessed to watching Madison’s last soccer game. Scott had very interesting trivia regarding our veterans in honor of Veterans Day coming up. Lots of reflection and made some money.
Paul introduced a past Kenmore Rotarian, Brian Ahern. Brian is associated with another club near Boston. They are very passionate about a program they are involved in. Rotaplast, www.rotaplast.org. This organization is committed to helping children worldwide by eliminating the burden of cleft lip and / or palate, burn scarring, and other deformities. Working with local professionals, Rotarians, and other organizations, Rotaplast sends multidisciplinary medical teams to provide free reconstructive surgery, ancillary treatment and training for the comprehensive care of these children. Brian himself attended one of these sessions in the Philippians. Very remarkable program, especially to see the before and after images of these delighted children.
Meeting adjourned.
