The Ken 10/17/2022
Table Attendance/Split Club: Dick Hanaburgh
Fine Master: Dick Hanaburgh
Invocation: John Coogan
The Ken: Donna DiFrancesco
President Brandon called the meeting to order at 12:22 with the Pledge to the Flag, followed by a prayer
by John Coogan. Dick announced our visitors. Karen Kulakowski, first visit as a potential new member,
and Scott Wojtanik and Meghan Joyce, our speakers, from Buffalo Comedy Collective.
Brandon asked for announcements. Pat thanked everyone for the excellent turnout for Shred-it on
Saturday, even though the weather was less than desirable. Exact amount will be available soon, but
current totals have us at approximately $7,500. Great job everyone! Our next Shred-It will be April 22,
providing that date is available to us. Pat will keep us posted. Brandon reminded board members that
there is a meeting this week, Friday 10/21 at 8 a.m. at the Ken-Ton Chamber office. Thursday, 10/27
from 5-8 p.m., the Rotary Club of Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus will be hosting a chili cook-off at
Flying Bison Brewery. Entrance fee is $25 and it’s rumored the District Governor Lisa Bishop will be
there. Dick announced that our club will be running the basket raffle at the Christmas Gala this year with
all proceeds benefiting our club for Operation Santa. Please help in securing or making some. The gala is
being held on December 7 at Park Country Club. Chuck made a plea for foundation grant requests for
brick-and-mortar projects. Applications are due no later Thanksgiving (November 24). Brandon noted
Charities grant requests are due by November 1. Steve let us know the speaker for next week, 10/24, is
Greg Hennessey, a podcaster with “In the Flamingo Lounge”. We are booked with speakers through the
end of November. We are looking to schedule speakers for December and beyond. Cameron announced
that the Tequila tasting evening at Park went well. I *think* he said it was paired with octopus?
Brandon introduced our speakers, Scott & Meghan. They hold Buffalo Comedy Sports
nights/competitions as well as night out shows for adults. They are located in the Harlem Road
Community Center and have been around since 1993. They hold improv nights, not always for comedic
content but as a tool for better communication. They offer workshops and classes and tailor-made
programs for birthday parties, holiday parties and even for schools. These classes can help break down
social anxieties and barriers in a fun, judgment free atmosphere. They treated us to an improv name
game where we were all involved. I (Dynamite Donna) had the pleasure of standing in between Lovely
Linda and Goofy Griffin! We had a lot of laughs! You can check them out on social media and find them
at buffalocomedycollective.com.
Split club of $12 was won by me (Donna) and Joe picked the “J” of Spades. Close, Joe!
Fine master Dick asked for confessions. Cameron said he had a little too much fun at the above-
mentioned tequila night and he also hosted his family for the winning Bills game. Brandon confessed to
missing most of Shred-it due to coaching hockey (they won!), working, blah, blah, blah. Steve called him
out on showing up late and then going inside to eat pizza. Pat came back from a visit to the Ozarks and
wanted everyone to know (if you follow the show) that there really is a place called Marty Birds. Dick
then quizzed us on Oktoberfest. The first year it was held was in 1810 and it was to celebrate a wedding.
There are strict requirements in order to be considered an Oktoberfest beer, one of them being that it
must be produced within the city limits of Munich. Finally, the parade to kick off Oktoberfest is
called…Inn Keepers Parade. Who knew? Meeting adjourned at 1:04 p.m. and lunch was enjoyed by all.
