We opened the meeting with the Pledge and Invocation from Gary Roberst. Our guest today was TJ Kodituwakku who has extensive ROTARY experience along with Jenna Brinkworth and Tony Billoni from Tobacco Free WNY.
Speakers Jenna and Tony from Tobacco Free WNY and provided very important information regarding their initiative – combating the environmental issue tied to cigarette smoking. A lot of information was shared including this short video: https://vimeo.com/569607223
This program is connected to the NYS Department of Health and focuses on policy change. DID YOU KNOW:
Cigarette butts are the second worst form of liter
Cigarette butts comprise of 305-40% of items collected in annual coastal/urban cleanups
4,211,962 cigarette butts were collected in beaches and waterways globally in 2019
Approximately 6000 million trees are chopped down each year by the tobacco industry. On average each tree produces enough paper for 15 packs of cigarettes
The organization is always interested in partnering with the community for sponsorship of receptacles for cigarette butts. Please reach out to Jenna or Tony if interested.

Kathy confessed to constantly picking up cigarette butts outside her office building and working “closely” with her fellow tenants on a solution.
